Podcast: Liban Mohamed is not here for the status quo

Liban Mohamed is 27 years old, the son of Somali immigrants—and he's running for Congress in Utah's 1st Congressional District.

Last month Mohamed walked out of the Utah Democratic State Convention with 51% of the vote, defeating former Congressman Ben McAdams in the final round. It wasn't supposed to go that way. But in a district that's been overhauled after a court order turned it from a Republican stronghold into a Democratic-leaning seat, the old rules may not apply.

In the latest episode of "Special Session," we sat down with Mohamed to talk about all of it: his policy agenda centered on healthcare, housing, and childcare; his call for a full prohibition on hyperscale data centers in water-stressed areas; and what it's been like to run a campaign that's been the subject of Islamophobic attacks since he posted his campaign announcement video.
