New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker will visit Utah next week (Aug. 12) to rally Democrats and raise money, with stops in Salt Lake City and Park City.
Utah Democratic Party Chair Brian King said Booker's team initiated the visit. The senator will headline a fundraising reception in downtown Salt Lake City on Wednesday afternoon and an evening fundraiser in Park City. A flier for the afternoon event says donations of $100 to $5,000 are required to attend.
King said he expects the visit to give Democrats a lift heading into November’s midterms.
“I think what it really illustrates is Utah is rising in how people see it,” King said. “People are recognizing more and more that Utah is moving to the left, as are a lot of places in light of the “orange wind” in the sails of a lot of Democrats across the United States these days.
“There are people who are taking notice of the movement and the direction that Utah is going. It says a lot to me that national figures recognize that Utah is on the rise in terms of being a state that Democrats need to take notice of.”
Booker ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020. Last year, he delivered the longest continuous speech in U.S. Senate history, speaking on the floor for 25 hours and 5 minutes.
