Utah poll: Trump approval sinks, Cox slides further

Utah voters are turning on President Donald Trump, and frustration over the economy is driving most of it, according to a new poll.

The survey from Noble Predictive Insights found that 54% of Utahns disapprove of Trump's job performance, including 41% who strongly disapprove. Only 43% approve.

That leaves Trump with a net approval rating of negative 10 points, down 10 points from April, when voters were split evenly on his performance.

The gender gap is wide: 54% of male voters approve of Trump, while 61% of women disapprove.

Views on the economy are harsher still. 58% of Utahns disapprove of how Trump is handling it, including 42% who strongly disapprove. Just 39% approve, giving him a net rating of negative 19 points on the issue.

Gov. Spencer Cox's approval fell even further. His net rating dropped 23 points, from positive 19 in April to negative 4 now, with 42% of Utahns approving of his job performance and 46% disapproving.

The decline splits sharply by party. 59% of Republicans approve of Cox's performance, while 66% of Democrats and 58% of independents disapprove.

Henderson's voter registration pushback

Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson is fighting the U.S. Department of Justice in court over its demand for Utah's full, unredacted voter rolls.

The DOJ sued Henderson in February seeking access to the state's voter database. Utah is one of nearly three dozen states the Trump administration has sued over voter roll access, and the federal government has yet to win a single case.

Most Utahns back Henderson's resistance. 54% approve of her stance, while just 27% disapprove.

Support crosses party lines. 47% of Republicans approve of Henderson's pushback, compared with 37% who don't. Democrats and independents back her by wide margins — 81% of Democrats and 53% of independents approve.
