Utah’s Republican primaries are closed. The upcoming Democratic primary in the new 1st Congressional District isn’t. Any voter, including Republicans, can cast a Democratic ballot if they ask for one.
55 days - Utah's 2026 primary election (6/23/2026)
188 days - 2026 midterm elections (11/3/2026)
923 days - 2028 presidential election (11/7/2028)
Four Democrats, Ben McAdams, Nate Blouin, Liban Mohammed, and Michael Ferrell, all qualified for the primary election on June 23. The winner will be a heavy favorite to win the Democratic-leaning district in November. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates CD1 as "Solid Democrat" with a Partisan Voting Index (PVI) of D+12. The Republican nominee in CD1 is Riley Owen.
Republican and unaffiliated voters who want to vote in the CD1 Democratic primary must request a Democratic mail-in ballot from the county clerk. The clerk’s office has an online form to make that request.
Republican voters who request a Democratic ballot won’t be able to vote in GOP primaries for the Utah House, Utah Senate, State School Board, or County Council races on the same ballot if they happen to live in those districts.

Mail ballots go out the first week of June. If you want a Democratic primary ballot, request it now; the clerk says sooner is better.
Republicans and independents can also vote using a provisional ballot in person during early voting or on Election Day.
