Prop. 4 repeal update: Ballot initiative qualifies in first Senate district; 25 more needed for ballot access

The Prop. 4 repeal campaign just notched its first qualified Senate district, a milestone that still leaves a steep climb: 25 more districts must hit the 8% threshold to make the November ballot.

New totals show the repeal campaign added 3,055 verified signatures, bringing the statewide tally to 53,737, which is 38.18% of the statewide goal of 140,748 verified signatures.

There are two clocks running: Feb. 14 is the deadline for organizers to submit signatures; clerks have 21 days to verify signatures, which means March 7 is the final day for that process.

The campaign needs to average roughly 2,807 verified signatures per day to reach the goal. The current two-day average is 2,705 verified signatures per day—close, but still shy of the required pace.

On the district map, SD27 has crossed the 8% mark, but organizers need another 25 districts or the initiative will fail to qualify for November's ballot, even if they hit the statewide signature goal.
