A scheduled appearance by Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk at the Utah State Capitol on Monday is off after news of her visit leaked.

Sources with knowledge of the plans told Utah Political Watch that Kirk, the widow of conservative podcaster Charlie Kirk, was scheduled to appear at the Capitol on Monday, where she was set to be awarded a citation by lawmakers. Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on the campus of Utah Valley University in September.

Per a press release reviewed by Utah Political Watch, organizers attempted to keep the event quiet, embargoing the announcement until after the citations were awarded.

(Note: The Utah Legislature has refused to issue Utah Political Watch a media credential. We did not receive this press release through official channels and therefore did not honor the embargo.)

Legislative leaders were informed on Sunday that Kirk would not be in attendance at the Capitol on Monday. Instead, lawmakers will deliver the citations to other Turning Point USA representatives.

In an email statement provided to Utah Political Watch, TPUSA disputed that Kirk was scheduled to visit Utah.

"There was never any Capitol visit to Utah planned, therefore to say 'it is no longer happening' is untrue," spokesperson Andrew Kolvet said.
