Utah state Sen. Nate Blouin isn't wasting any time.

Just days after Judge Diana Gibson approved new congressional maps that created a D+14 district in Salt Lake County, Blouin announced he's running for Congress. He launched his campaign Monday, picked up an endorsement from Bernie Sanders, and is already taking shots at his Democratic opponents — without naming them directly.

On the latest episode of Special Session, Blouin lays out his pitch: he's a progressive who won't moderate his positions to win, he's sworn off corporate and PAC money, and he thinks Democrats are on track to take back the House in 2026.

We covered a lot of ground:

He was blunt about the maps. Blouin said he would [not have run under Map C](https://utahpolitics.news/map-tossed-math-changed/), the legislature's preferred option that Gibson rejected. And if the courts somehow restore the 2021 maps? He'd have to think hard about whether that makes sense for a candidate running in the progressive lane.

This race is shaping up to be one of the most competitive Democratic primaries Utah has seen in years. Blouin is positioning himself as the progressive alternative to Ben McAdams, who reportedly has a $500,000 head start on fundraising.
