Democrat Ben McAdams and Republican Riley Owen agreed on more than expected Tuesday night in the first debate for Utah's new Democratic-leaning congressional seat. They split on tariffs, the national debt and the maps that created the district.

The Utah Debate Commission hosted the 1st Congressional District debate at Salt Lake Community College. The seat exists only because a court threw out the Legislature's gerrymandered map.

Anyone hoping for a brawl didn't get one. The two found plenty of common ground, but they split on tariffs, the national debt and the maps that created the district.
