It’s no longer “if” but “when.” The Prop. 4 repeal ballot initiative is on pace to hit Utah’s statewide threshold of 140,748 verified signatures next week, after a late surge at the deadline and several days of brisk verification.

Thursday’s update added a net 7,786 verified signatures, bringing the total to 107,793—76.59% of the statewide target—with about 33,000 to go.

Assuming a roughly 75% acceptance rate (typical for large petition efforts), about 143,700 signatures have now been processed.

The effort also crossed the 8% threshold in a fifth state Senate district—the first new district to qualify since early February. That leaves 21 more districts to lock down for a November ballot spot.

Twelve more districts could cross the line next week if Thursday’s pace holds. District 25 needs just 153 signatures; Districts 2, 11, and 20 also showed real momentum in the latest update.

With gains across multiple districts, the projected statewide “safe” total to qualify drops to ~230,000 signatures, down from an earlier ~240,000 estimate.

One caveat: another 378 signatures were removed on Thursday. Expect more routine churn as clerks work through the backlog. They have until March 7 to finish verifying signatures.
