# Fireball-drinking J6 rioter to headline Davis County GOP fundraiser

A Jan. 6 rioter who [reportedly knocked back shots of Fireball](https://www.washingtonian.com/2021/03/18/accused-capitol-rioter-took-fireball-shots-on-nancy-pelosis-desk-fbi-witness-says/?ref=utahpolitics.news) in Nancy Pelosi’s office is set to take center stage as the keynote speaker at the Davis County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day fundraising dinner next week.

Treniss Evans pleaded guilty to a federal misdemeanor charge [for his role in the Jan. 6 attack](https://herald-zeitung.com/community%5Falert/man-with-a-megaphone-canyon-lake-s-treniss-evans-sentenced-for-jan-6-actions/article%5F163fb7a6-7d94-11ed-9ab2-b390db69e6f2.html?ref=utahpolitics.news) on the Capitol. Before entering the building, he was seen carrying a blue megaphone urging the crowd to remain peaceful. After he stepped inside the building, he urged the crowd to follow him.

["Bring 'em in," he commanded through his bullhorn](https://www.expressnews.com/news/local/article/Bring-em-in-Canyon-Lake-man-shouted-16992918.php?ref=utahpolitics.news), urging the mob forward.

Federal prosecutors slapped Evans with five counts—including the felony charge of obstructing an official proceeding. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to unlawfully and knowingly entering a restricted building as part of a plea deal. He served 20 days in jail, was sentenced to three years of probation, and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.

Following his brief imprisonment, [Evans reinvented himself as an advocate](https://whyy.org/articles/some-capitol-rioters-try-to-profit-from-their-jan-6-crimes/?ref=utahpolitics.news), founding a group dedicated to defending other January 6 participants facing prosecution.

Evans was among the 1,500 people [pardoned by President Donald Trump](https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/j6-pardoned-rioter-fighting-release-fellow-rioters-still-behind-bars-d-c?ref=utahpolitics.news) for their role in the insurrection.

Davis County Republican Party chairman Yemi Arunsi remained silent when Utah Political Watch asked who was responsible for inviting the pardoned rioter to speak.
